The laboratories and centres perform those activities of the Institute that are defined as a long term programme orientation in specific disciplines or working areas and, with regard to their size and scope, are not part of a narrower research or educational area.
The laboratories and centres are organised as independent organisational units or as a part of a research department. Laboratories and centres can be associated into departments provided that such linking of disciplines and working areas ensures the formation of a narrower research area.
