The Director's managerial position involves the implementation of the programme guidelines, the management of the Institute as well as responsibility for the legality of the Institute's operation.

The Director represents the Institute and is responsible for the organisation and management of the work and operations of the Institute as well as for the organisation and implementation of the Institute's action plan. The Director also implements the decisions of the Board of Governors, adopts the Institute's general legal acts, and takes decisions related to the rights, obligations and resposibilities of the employees.

The Director, who holds office for a term of five years, is chosen by the Board of Governors.
